After graduating Hyde Park attended Chicago City Jr. Coll. and University of Illinois Chicago Circle. Worked in radio 1970-1976. Went into USAF, and came out to California and went into the flying business during the 80's and 90's. The last airline I flew for filed Ch. 11 in 2003 and now I work for the FAA as an ATC controller. Hope to get back to flying soon, although at my age (56.5) it's hard to get hired. I'll probably have to fly corporate if I want to fly past age 60. Great to find this WEB sight. I have many memories of HP and have kept in touch with a few alumni over the years. I've been living in Redlands, CA since 1976 when the Air Force sent me out here, with a brief 2 year stay in Redondo Beach, (almost as good as 57th Street Beach). May all Hyde Parker's live a long and fruitful life, and keep in touch. 3/2/05 NANCY BEKENSTEIN (KULLMAN) '66Home: Gurnee, IL LOIS BENSON '62Spouse: John Hodik ANITA BENTLEY (WILLIAMS) '66Spouse: Charles R. I then taught at Lewis-Champlin El. in Chicago where I met my current husband, Pope Wright. (I was married to Wardell Cannon, who died in 1963.) After 3 years, we relocated to Muncie, Indiana, where we attended Ball State University. I earned a Masters Degree, he worked on his Doctorate. I also taught in the Muncie Community Schools. In 1971, we moved to Superior, WI, where Pope teaches at UW-Superior, and I teach 5th grade. We have one daughter and one grandson (who, of course, is extremely bright and good-looking). I am on several Boards, including the Boys & Girls Club. I am very active in the local chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. I am a former volleyball enthusiast, but still play Bridge and bowl once a week. I hope this is sufficient to keep those "vicious" rumors from spreading too fast. I usually start the ones about me so that I can see how they have changed by the time they get back to me. I have no scanner, so if you want to know what I look like, just find a picture of Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Lena Horne or Vanessa Williams. They're close enough! DONALD BREAKSTONE '62After graduation in '62, I went to the Univ. of Michigan graduating in 1966. Then went to Harvard Law School graduating in 1969. I met my wife Barbara at Michigan (she was a year behind me). We were married in 1968 and, miracle of miracle, we are actually still married (and to each other)! Got 2 kids--Elizabeth (23) and Michael (18). After law school, I worked with Legal Aid in Cleveland for 2 years. Then Barb and I moved to Amsterdam (the Dutch one that is) for a year and a half; both of us were allegedly working there but I'd have to say work wasn't our first thought. We moved back to Chicago in 1973 and I went to work for a large law firm here (Mayer, Brown & Platt, if anyone cares). I stayed there for 21 years, which is more than enough in a job for any human being, even a lawyer. In 1994 I went to a client of mine that I helped midwife in 1979. It is an attorneys' malpractice carrier called ALAS. I am Senior VP and General Counsel, but I am mostly a management type now rather than a legal type. HERB BRENNER '64Spouse: Blair SANDY BREWER (GINSBERG) '64Spouse: Ben Ginsberg '64 ELLERY BROWN '68Home: Pinole, CA I received a BA from Millikin University, 1972. Currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area and getting closer to retirement. Still trying to stay like a teenager by playing basketball and softball, but when I do, I feel very much like a senior citizen. Although I always wanted to sing in an R & B group, circumstances prevented it (i.e., can't sing). Instead I ended up playing percussion and parading in the SF Carnival parade every May with a Brazilian samba group. When I can, I do a little traveling: So far have been to Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Geneva and Trinidad. 1/17/08 PAUL BROWN '84Spouse: Cathy BARBARA BUCKNELL (ASHCRAFT) 55½Spouse: Donald L. I went to Camp Martin Johnson. and to Sinai Temple where I was confirmed by Rabbi Mann. Roosevelt University in 1963 and have a MSW from the University of Nebraska.

After graduating from Hyde Park, I went to the U of Illinois (Champaign) where I managed to earn a BA in 1967. I began as a math major, but to cope with the myriad distractions of the 60s (did anyone else notice??), changed course when I realized I could get a degree simply by reading good literature and expressing my opinions. So I graduated completely unprepared for any meaningful career and turned to the world of business where I worked in marketing research and business analysis for twelve years. I began working in Chicago, moved to Philadelphia for several years, then back to Chicago. Around 1979, in need of a career change, I drifted into law school. My all too many years since graduating from law school, have been spent practicing benefits and employment law in large to midsize law firms in Chicago ....mainly for corporate America (shhhhh). I have been married since 1980 and have two wonderful children: Sarah, a freshman at Tufts, and Andrew, an eighth grader at Lab (sorry about that). I think of many Hyde Parkers from time to time, especially since I live near the site of the crime. I was in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. I attended Illinois State University where I got a B.A. in Political Science. In 1975 I relocated to California, and return to Chicago in 1994. I am still a bachelor. BILL DOUGLAS '61aHome: Powder Springs, GA B.S. Finance, California State University-Northridge I attended Hyde Park from September, 1957 to April, 1960, when family issues forced me to leave school and join the military. With several summer school sessions, I managed to get enough credits to graduate in January, 1961, but it was not to be. I did return to Hyde Park Evening School after tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Vietnam and received my diploma in 1970. After discharge I worked at a major bank in Chicago as an internal auditor clerk, then obtained a position with commercial finance company as a loan specialist. I moved to Southern California in mid-1970, where I have been a resident since. I attended Los Angeles City College for two years, graduating with academic honors, and then obtained a BS in Finance from Cal State University. Concurrently, I managed to get a commission in the Air Force Reserves. While attending college in the evenings, I worked full time and still carried a full course load while squeezing in reserve duties and other pursuits. After graduation from Cal State, I went on to study law for two years. Increased reserve obligations and deployments forced me to give up law school. Over the years, I have traveled extensively throughout the world. Some travel was due to assignments while on active duty in the military. The majority of travel was in my civilian capacity as a Senior Negotiator for a major defense contractor where I specialize in negotiating defense-related equipment and services contracts with foreign governments. I am now retired from the Air Force and have a little more than a year remaining before I retire from my civilian job.(Joy, Joy!!) I enjoy flying around in a Cessna 172. I still have a passion for history since the high school days and should have been a history teacher. Oh well!!! I keep in contact with my sister Louella Stevenson, now Luella Chambers, (class of '60) at least weekly through emails. Luella lives in an Atlanta suburb and is enjoying a second career with an advertising firm. I'm thinking of moving to the Atlanta suburbs after I retire. California living is just getting too expensive! Brent, my son, started working at at a resort in the High Sierra's at Mammoth Lakes, CA earlier this year, having opted out of continuing his education for the time being. I'm still keeping up the pressure on him though! The Hyde Park “Blue and White” is still in my veins. During the rare return visits to Chicago to visit relatives, I always stop by the campus and conjure up memories of days gone by...the "innocent" years. I would enjoy hearing from alumni that were in the class of '61. JACQUELINE DOYLE (McCARRELL) '64Spouse: Addis ANNE DRAZNIN '62Home: Springfield, IL MICHAEL DRAZNIN '65Spouse: Carole DIANE DRIGOT '65Home: Kailua, HI I am currently Senior Natural Resources Management Specialist (federal civil service) at Marine Corps Base Hawaii where I’ve worked since 1982 to help build the Environmental Dept. from a staff of one (myself) to a department of about 30 employees. I am also on the affiliate environmental faculty at University of Hawaii (UH). Over approx. 35 years, I have primarily served as a natural resource manager, but also a resource policy analyst, environmental impact consultant, and/or professor (e.g., at UH Environmental Center; international East-West Center; University of Northern Colorado). My career track was set early by a strong interest in biology at Hyde Park High School (Valedictorian, 1965). I became a Conservation Major in Barnard College, Columbia University (A.B. 1969); the first woman seasonal park ranger/naturalist at the remote Katmai National Park, Alaska (1968, 1969); and completed my M.S. and Ph.D. in Natural Resources (1972, 1975), at University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)—where I also helped organize the first Earth Day celebration. Throughout my career, I’ve sustained a strong commitment to community-based conservation. I have authored or co-authored educational videos, curriculum improvements, community displays, books, articles, and chapters regarding windward O’ahu wetlands, our award-winning Marine Corps conservation program, and have served my community through Kawai Nui Heritage Foundation, windward elementary schools, and with the windward kupuna (Native Hawaiian elders) program in the schools. Hobbies I’ve enjoyed include 13 years of serious hula studies and dance competitions; 5 years of outrigger canoe paddling, here in Hawaii. I have been noted for successful efforts at drawing the military and host community together in a combined cooperative conservation effort recognized in multiple awards and/or recognition I’ve received from diverse local and national sources such as US Department of Defense, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Sierra Club, Hawaii Audubon Society, Hawaiian Civic Clubs, Hawaii’s State Legislature, and Honolulu City Council. Notable recent honors include designation as Kane’ohe Citizen of the Year (2003), twice Secretary of the Navy’s Conservation Individual of the Year (2005, 1995); and one of four finalists for a prestigious national Service to America Medal (2003) (a non-partisan national competition honoring the nation’s top civil servants). In early 2009, I was diagnosed with a rare blood disease and was cured by receipt of a stem cell transplant from an adult female donor—luckily being covered for this procedure by my federal employee health program! I have fond memories of Hyde Park, my classmates, and many inspiring teachers who helped influence my chosen career path in public service, community conservation, and hands-on natural resource management. 12/25/2009 KATHLEEN "KAT" DUKES (MUHAMMED) '64Spouse: William Attended two years college, never received a degree. Joined the Nation of Islam in 1979. JEAN DUNLAPBusiness - Kaiser Permanente - MCS/Med Legal KENNETH EASTMAN '65Spouse: Linda NATHANIEL EDWARDS '63Home: Chicago, IL PHILLIP EDWARDS '64Spouse: Barbara Dancy (HP '65) ALICE EICHHOLZ '60Two days after graduation in Jan. 1960, I arrived at Indiana University with classmates Dave Townsend and Marianne Shapiro. In a school of 11,000 (then) I rarely saw them again. After graduation I worked as a school social worker in a rural Indiana school, went to Berkeley, CA to be trained at U.C. Berkeley in working with inner city youth and did that for four years in San Diego and Detroit. While in Detroit I finished my master's at Wayne State and was very involved in Detroit Civic Center Players. After that graduation, I moved to the "Big
Apple," working at Queens College as a counselor to
students in the Open Admissions program. New York was a
terrific place to "grow up" and become radical in
the late 1960s and 1970s. Anti-war activism, community
theatre and a Ph.D. were the rewards. Vermont is beautiful, but a hard place to live with no reliable jobs on the horizon. We openned Mad River Video, delivering videos (in the early days of the genre!) to vacationers at ski resorts. It broke us! Too capital intensive and too much work. The relationship ended and I sought stability for me and my four-year old daughter. After two years of trying to patch together various jobs (selling photos on "the mountain" to skiiers; doing family history research for others; giving fall foliage historical bus tours, etc.) I was offered a full-time job at Vermont College of Norwich University as faculty mentor to adults returning to college. That is what I have been doing for the last 15 years. It offered stability and flexibility while I raised my daughter as a single-parent household. Cady (Caitlin Elizabeth Eddy) is now a sophomore at Elon College in NC majoring in musical theatre. My long-term interest in family history has led me to some pretty amazing experiences and observations of family process. In addition to publishing several books in the field and having an active client caseload of those looking for Vermont and New England "roots," I am a consultant with Geogetown Family Center in Wahsington DC where we are setting up a database to observe five to ten generations of family process. I actually graduated from another school, however, my experiences at Hyde Park were very memorable. I have four brothers, a sister, and a brother-in-law (see Booker T. Morris, 61½) that also graduated from Hyde Park CLEMENTINE GILMORE (MORRIS) '63½Spouse: Booker T. Morris, MD Grandchildren Jelisa 1989, Alexander 1996 Hyde Park Brothers: COLEMAN ROBINSON CHARLES GILMORE, CARY GILMORE, CRAIG GILMORE AND CHESTER GILMORE KENWOOD Clementine passed away April 10, 2007. BEN GINSBERG '64Spouse: Sandy Brewer '64 After graduating in 1964, I remained in Hyde Park for college at the U of C. I graduated in 1968, and apparently unable to leave Hyde Park, entered graduate school at the U of C. That same year Sandy Brewer and I got married and she started medical school at the U of C. We're still married 35 years later. After I completed my PhD in 1972, I was offered a job in the Government Department at Cornell. Ithaca, NY was a major change from Hyde Park. The first thing I noticed was a cow grazing near the airport. I think the only cow I had previously seen was at the Lincoln Park Zoo. After a while, Sandy completed her training in internal medicine and oncology at Chicago and the University of Washington in Seattle and joined me in upstate, New York. She eventually became a professor of medicine at SUNY in Syracuse and I worked my way through the ranks at Cornell to become a professor of Government. We had our first child (Cindy) in 1979 and our second (Alex) in 1981. Sandy left academic medicine in 1982 and opened an oncology/internal medicine practice in Ithaca. In 1992, I was offered an endowed chair at Johns Hopkins and we moved to Potomac, Maryland - a suburb of Washington, DC. Sandy joined a practice in Washington and later started a new practice in oncology/internal medicine in downtown DC. Cindy, now 23, graduated from Stanford and is a graduate student in Chemistry at Princeton. Alex, now 21, is a senior at Harvard and is planning to go to law school next year. I've written a number of books on topics in government and politics and, after all these years, I still apply some of the rules I first learned from Bernice Cohen in English classes and the school newspaper. I've been back to Hyde Park a few times in recent years to lecture at the U of C but its been so long since I lived there that it doesn't even feel familiar. In short order, I acquired a government position implementing foreign policy for the United States Government, and was discharged three years later with the rank of Sergeant. At that point, Chicago didn't have much of a future, and Dad urged me to stay in the Northeast. I moved to Boston in 1972 and I've been here ever since. Not wishing to live on the usual starvation wages of a liberal arts graduate, I went to work for the MBTA ["Money Being Thrown Away", "More Buffoons Than Anywhere", ete] and decided it would be fun to help redesign a great city, just like Fredrick Law Olmstead. With this in mind, I went back to U-Mass and got a Master's in Public Affairs in 1984. Alas, as Steve Cotton discovered, the natives here dislike outsiders [An "outsider" in Boston is anybody not born within the nurturing boundaries of Suffolk County!], and are happiest, like farm animals, when rolling around in their own straw, and making small projects [Like a football field] into epic Greek tragedies, with choruses of thousands. As time passed, and my once-promising role in management became truncated, I decided to take the LSAT, and the rest is history! As to the personal side of things; no wife, no kids, no pool, no pets, no plants. [Debby Rubenstein once told me, "Bob, I can see you as a father - but not as a husband."] Of course, all that could change in a heartbeat. After all, the Shah of Iran was married three times, and I'm no worse than him! Other activities have included trade union activism [Legislative Committee of the Amalgamated Transport Workers in the eighties, abortion rights, a five year project to build the Green Line to Logan Airport via the Blue Line [Which was included in the Environmental Impact Statements for both the Third Harbor Tunnel and the Central Artery [AKA "Big Dig"] projects; thereby providing my allotted fifteen minutes of fame. I'm also a director of Congregation Agudath Sholom, an Orthodox Shul in Chelsea, Mass, that has had a daily minyan since 1909, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. I'm entering my final year at Suffolk Law School in Boston, where I'm "Night Shift" Editor of DICTA, the Suffolk Law School newspaper. For three years I've written a column called "Run As Directed" [Which everyone likes but the dean!], and last year I was nominated to "Who's Who Among American Law Students". Favorite treats include salami omelets and white water kayaking - NOTHING like it! All in all, life is good and getting better! Looking forward to seeing everybody next year, and if you're going to be in Boston, do call! AISHA GLOVER '96I am a single mother of a little boy named Joshua and he is 5 years old. From 1997 to 1999 (as long as I could tolerate the bureaucracy and it could tolerate me), I was a principal and head of marketing publications for William M. Mercer, Incorporated, an international human resource consulting firm. From 1991 to 1997 I counseled organizations on developing and executing long-term communication strategies during times of external transformation and/or internal restructuring. I also assisted unionized organizations in developing cooperative working relationships within the collective-bargaining framework, training labor-management teams to recognize and develop communications as an essential element in a new, non-adversarial organizational culture. From 1978 to 1991 I was with Hill and Knowlton, a public relations/public affairs firm. I wound up a senior vice president, director of the Communications Task Force (the company’s hotshot writing group), and a creative/strategic director in the New York and Washington, D.C., offices. Two mergers and rapacious new management scotched that cushy deal the first time I called the new management “rapacious.” Prior to that I was an associate editor at Library Journal magazine, and worked in film distribution and exhibition for a production company and a repertory cinema chain. I have a BA in literature, philosophy, and psychology from New York University. I’ve served on the Communications Committee of Healthy Companies, a Washington-based organizational research and consulting firm. I’ve been a member of the board of trustees of Jennifer Muller and The Works, a New York-based dance company, and have served as a consultant to the Arts and Business Council, the American Film Institute, the Negro Ensemble Company, the Roundabout Theatre Company, and the Management Decision Laboratory at New York University's Graduate School of Business Administration. I’ve also been a book reviewer for Saturday Review and Library Journal magazines and a member of the National Book Critics Circle. I’m divorced; no children. In preparation for retirement — “a consummation devoutly to be wished” — I’ve developed interests in astronomy, bird watching, and bridge. Ballroom dancing inevitably must follow.
