Time
seems to be accelerating every year‑‑never enough to
do everything nor to travel to all the magnificent places
around the globe. World events have closed off some wonderful destinations, and
have made travel in general more daunting. We cannot let terrorists control us,
but we do have to confront realities and be more alert. Tour companies and
cruise lines are modifying itineraries, necessitating some flexibility from
customers; airline security measures are creating delays and long lines, so
travelers must have more patience.
At the end of the year, I always reflect back on my personal travels. For instance, I attended a surprise birthday party in Cabo San Lucas. I arranged flights, hotel rooms and a dinner, and was able to obtain discounts for group travel. Being so close to Los Angeles, Cabo is a great destination for a long week‑end. In May I returned to Holland, where my family and I had lived for a year a while back; then went on to Berlin (see me with “Berlin bear”), Dresden and Weimar. All of these are wonderful destinations, for art, culture, old and new architecture and sites, and easy places to get to and see.
