CLUB 61 NEWSLETTER3/21/06 [Posted by Patricia Wallace] Club 61 would like to keep you inform of what’s going on, so we hope you enjoy this newsletter. April, 2005 Hyde Park Academy High School held an all class dance to help raise funds for the school. This was the second year for this fundraiser. We had at least 3 tables of people who attend our fundraiser. They had refreshments, raffles and they sold t-shirts. We were in a gym they didn’t have when we attend the school. Everyone had a good time. May, 2005 Sylvia (Mills) Rogers, Carolyn (Gipson) Bryant and I went to California for an all class reunion. Hyde Park’s oldest alumni is Fred Hofeld class of 1926 (98 yrs old) who organized this reunion. He has reunions every 5 years. There were 200 people from classes of 37, 39, 41, 46, 47, 51, 55, 64, and 65. Wayne English class of 65 was the baby of the reunion who received a blue rattle with white ribbon. Some had their year books and they would ask us what class and when we said 61 they called us babies. A good time was had by all. Don’t let Fred’s age fool you, he’s on the ball. Fred lost his wife last December 04, and his brother is 101 yrs old. Fred and I keep in touch on a regular basis. Austin Moore lives in California now and he was at the reunion. He will try and come to our fundraiser this year. Club 61’s annual fundraiser dance was held on Sept. 10, 2005. We had a lot of new faces as well as the regulars who support this function yearly. Gus Hall one of our members has moved to North Carolina. Club 61 is looking for new members’, if you would like to join our committee please get in touch with any committee member. At our fundraiser I stated that we need help from our alumni’s with donations. We would like to serve food and sell t-shirts but we need donations. If you can not attend this fundraiser please send a donation. We had a few people that have given extra when purchasing a ticket and one person send a check for $50.00 since he didn’t attend this year. Our goal is to help our school and have a good time with our peers. When we first started our fundraiser in 92, I went back to the school and gave a graduating senior a check for $250 to help toward college. Several years later we increased the check to $500. I have not been back to the school because we don’t have the money to give we have just enough to keep the fundraiser dance going. Club 61 would like to thank all who have support our fundraiser and we hope you will continue to do so. Club 61 is looking for new members, if you would like to join our group, please get in contact with any club member. On a sad note, Diane Aquillard class of 61 past on Dec. 19, 2005. She had been very sick for years, she will surely be missed. This year the dance will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at St. Thaddeus Church Hall, 95th & Harvard. Hyde Park Academy has changed it’s mascot from an Indian to a Thunderbird. That’s right the school is no longer an Indian, but since we are from the old school we will always be an Indian. If you are looking for classmates, let Club 61 know and we will try to locate them for you. We will try to keep you updated on any news and events for this year. Peace and Love, Barbara, Sandra, Sylvia C., Sylvia R., Sylvia P., Cheryl, Lester, Leonard and Dolly
